This information is meant to serve as an overview of the City of Paris Open Burning Ordinance.

Do I need a permit to burn in the City of Paris?

Yes, a permit is required for open burning in the City of Paris.  There is currently no charge for a burn permit.

How can I get a burn permit?

You may call Paris Fire Department at 731-642-1413, to request a burn permit.  If conditions are favorable for burning, PFD personnel will go to a burn site and inspect the material to be burned and issue or deny the permit.

Can I burn leaves in Paris?

No, leaves cannot be burned in City of Paris.  The City of Paris offers leaf pickup by Public Works during certain periods during the year.

What materials can I burn?

Scrap wood products and brush can be burned.

​

Illegal Materials:

Oil base products, roofing materials such as shingles, sheet rock, wood products containing glue, insulation, foam products, plastic products, garbage, pallets, cardboard, papers, leaves or rubber products.

Burning Requirements:

Fire shall be located 50 feet from any structure.

Any open burning shall be constantly attended until the fire is extinguished.

Adequate and appropriate fire extinguishing equipment shall be available to person attending the fire extinguished.

Do I need a permit to use an outdoor burn pit, fireplace, or chimanea?
